About the Coffee
Grapes, avocados, blueberries, asparagus; take a look where many of your everyday produce items come from and you might be surprised to see Peru listed as the country of origin. Not surprisingly, coffee and cocoa come from Peru as well, it is among the top coffee producing countries in the world after all! This coffee hails from the province of La Convención in the department of Cusco, a region well known for being the gateway to the famous mountain region of Peru that hosts Machu Picchu and other Incan relics. Coffee is produced here by smallholder farmers at high elevations between 1,400 - 2,000 MASL with farms on an average of 1.5 hectares, or just shy of 4 acres. Producers here sell their coffee cherry to buying stations set up by the importer/exporter in different points throughout the region. The coffee is grown under the shade of cedar and pacay trees, picked when ripe, fully washed, and dried in solar dryers, which are like hothouses to keep them out of the rain. This is a well-balanced, rich cup of coffee.
